Clapboard is a lapped clad, with horizontal boards overlapping the ones beneath them. The result is a stepped clad, the lapped boards creating a cascading set of shields, like armor. But in a peaceful way. Lapped siding of all sorts reference a time before, and with that a note of humility and reverence for the common cause. And back then the common cause was keeping water off the house, which Clapboard does better than anyone. Therefore Clapboard is most commonly seen as an exterior siding but when it is seen inside a house, its in places where its weighted pretense matches the weighted pretense of the room. Redwood is rich in color, naturally resilient, mysterious, powerful, and like the tree itself, communicates a way of living that is enriched by community, welcoming to all, and deeply rooted in the earth. The grain is soft, the hand is buttery, and the color is in the terra cotta family.

Clapboard is available in 7” (shown here), 5” and 3” widths in either Redwood or Douglas-fir, clean face (shown here) or original patina. Rabbit notch joinery. Can come accented by brush and sealant.
